Celebrating – 50 years of Independence

H.E. the President President Khama asked all to reflect on Setswana culture and traditions as well as Botho. He said Batswana need to practice and entrench good values every day and in every way.

He paid tribute to the founding fathers of the nation for the foresight they had in creating the nation. Preparations for the country’s 50th independence celebrations started last year with the hoisting of flags on tall towers around the country.

“I look forward to seeing the blue, black and white colours flying over our cities, towns, villages, settlements and the countryside as we mark the upcoming day,” he said. He called on all to count the country’s blessings and losses and to celebrate its success as well as to reflect on its future. President Khama also unveiled the Bot50 logo with its ‘Botswana Pele’ message on the country’s map, which is the campaign theme for the celebrations.

“From humble beginnings, Botswana has risen to be ranked as one of the middle income countries amidst all the challenges ranging from being surrounded by politically unstable environments, Foot and Mouth Disease outbreaks and HIV/AIDS,” said H.E Seretse. Readmore www.gov.co.bw
