POWER GIRL: the year that was

The year is done and dusted, and Power Girl has recognized and celebrated the many achievements that the amazing Batswana women have achieved during the year. Here is a look at some of our most memorable POWER GIRLS under 30 and the goals they have achieved.

Matsheng is a 24-year-old social development community leader with sights set high, and a dream of seeing an HIV free generation. At just 22 years old she co-founded Young 1love, an NGO that has since grown into a formidable force, reaching over 40 000 youth. Young 1love seeks to disseminate proven life - saving information by youth for youth in Africa.

The young lady’s community development work was a result of her mother’s death, who passed away from HIV when she was 6 years-old. Having been raised by her grandparents, Matsheng aims to enable youth in Botswana to live the HIV-free life her mother never had.

As the Commonwealth celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday last year, Matsheng was recognised by the Queen for taking the lead in transforming the lives of others and making a lasting difference in her community.
