Scotch toast of awards
Leungo Scotch of Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) was toast of the night at Botswana Sport Awards on November 21 as he walked away with Sportsperson of the Year Award pocketing P100 000 and Sportman of the Year Award.
Receiving the awards, Scotch said he was happy with the achievement attributing it to good work and determination.
“I want to thank my coach for his determination and hardwork in making me an athlete to compete on high profile events,” he said.
Scotch is a gold medalist in 400m at the 2019 African Games in Morocco and silver medalist at BAA National Championships.
He was also part of the men 4x400m team that won gold medal at the 2019 African Games. He also participated at the Bahamas National Finals and Manchester International Meet.
Scotch was also a semi-finalist in 400m at the World Athletics Championship in Doha.
Meanwhile, Sportswoman of the Year Award was scooped by Galefele Moroko of BAA winning P50 000 from Debswana.
Gorata Malehaneng of Special Olympics walked away with Sportsperson with Disability Award - Female Award while Glad Ketlaaleka of swimming walked away with Sportsperson with Disability Award - Male.
Refilwe Gabatswane of chess walked away with Junior Female Sportsperson of the Year and Denzel Seetso of tennis scooped Junior Male Sportsperson of the Year Award.
Vinay Naicker of Taekwondo walked away with Non-Citizen Sports Award while National Team Award was awarded to men 4x400m relay team.
National Sport Association of the Year Award was scooped by Botswana Boxing Association while Sport Administrator of the Year was awarded to Dr Thato Patlakwe of Botswana Boxing Association.
Kebonemodisa Mosimanyane of athletics walked away with Coach of the Year Award and also won himself P10 000 and a holiday to Kasane courtesy of Vincent Excellent Tours.
Empire or Referee of the Year Award was won by Dorophy Okatch of basketball.
Print Journalist of the Year Award was won by Mqondisi Dube of Mmegi and Photo journalism of the Year Award was scooped by Godfrey Mpuse of Botswana Press Agency (BOPA) while Print Media House of the year Award went to Dailynews and Btv scooped Electronic Media House of the year Award.
Kagiso Phatsimo of Yarona FM won Electronic Journalist of the year.
Newly introduced award, Women in Sport Award was scooped by BOPA’s Anastacia Sibanda. ENDS
