The Ministry of Health and Wellness when addressing the media on a joint press brief with WHO, BTO held at Avani hotel, told the media that there are no coronavirus cases in Botswana as rumors on social media have been misinforming the nation.
The WHO Representative to Botswana Dr. Josephine Namboze told the media that as for now Botswana is still cleared for any infection and alluded that WHO`s aim or mandate is to make sure that all countries have all necessary laboratory equipment as more preparatory work is needed to prevent the epidemic.
Dr. Namboze continued to mention that South Africa is the only country in Southern Africa with confirmed 61 Coronavirus cases, and other countries with confirmed cases are Namibia, DRC, Togo, Algeria, Cameroon, Morocco, Tunisia and with Egypt having the highest numbers in Africa at over 97 confirmed cases.
When updating on behalf of the tourism industry Ms. Myra Sekgororwane said IATA is monitoring the status and trade between countries attacked by the epidemic and she went on to say the organization advises that people should reduce or stop the exportation of goods and reduce travels while the situation is still under observation. Ms. Sekgororwane said BTO will advise in caution for the events that they as an organisation have power over.
