Mascom supports TeamBW
As we approach the Olympics, Batswana and their athletes wait in anticipation to see which athletes will qualify to go to Tokyo. The athletes are currently in a bootcamp and preparations for the qaulifiers are still ongoing. Telco giant Mascom has decided to come on board and support TeamBW. A partnership between Mascom and BNOC in support of TeamBW was announced during a press conference at the Mascom Innovation Center. The Botswana Olympic dream is a 40 years old dream which started in Moscow in 1980, when TeamBW competed at the Olympics for the very first time with a delegation of 7 athletes.
To date, London 2012 remains our most successful Olympic campaign, when we sent our smallest delegation of 4 athletes, but brought home our first and only Silver medal from the Olympics.
Mascom Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Dzene Makhwade unpacked Mascom’s sponsorship as follows;
1. As you are aware the BNOC has for some time now been running the 16789 SMS campaign to lobby support from the public to donate towards the team preparations and hospitality needs. I am pleased to announce that Mascom has taken a decision to forgo the revenue share due to Mascom from the P5 donation. Our share will be redeemed to TeamBW.
2. Further, from today, Mascom will utilise our ColMeBack service messaging to send a call to action message that reminds Customers to SMS 16789 to support TeamBW.
This initiative and related updates will continue until the team leaves for Tokyo.
We will use some of our channels to profile TeamBW and assist the BNOC in creating the hype which will hope will get more Batswana as individuals and corporates to support TeamBW.
3. Third, the BNOC has advised us that they plan to host a fundraising Gala dinner for #TeamBW and that all the proceeds from this dinner will go directly to the team preparation costs.
Present at the sponsorship reveal, Isaac Makwala and Onkabetse Nkobolo, Onkabetse thanked Mascom for the support that they have given them and encouraged other corporates to rally behind them. He assured everyone that they are willing and ready to give the Olympics their all.
