Mascom supports Region 5 Youth games

Botswana will very soon be well known for her sportsmanship as the country has been hosting grand scale sporting events for the past few years. The most recent sporting events held in the country include the 2017 Netball World Youth Cup and only recently the CUCSA games.

This morning, we witnessed the launching and sponsorship cheque handovers from Mascom Wireless, Botswana’s number 1 mobile network service provider. The event which was held at Boipuso Hall, fairgrounds Holdings was graced by the Honourable Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development Thapelo Olopeng. The Honourable Minister had the honour of welcoming the various sponsors to the event as well as the esteemed media practitioners. In his delivery, the Minister spoke of the importance of the Region 5 Youth Games as a platform where peace, unity and integration in the SADC region is promoted and achieved while also encouraging people to develop and come together irrespective of colour, economic status, political class or gender.  

He further stressed the importance of physical fitness to those attending saying that “the government has committed to improving the lifestyles of Batswana to curb non-communicable diseases through sport. It is through this, the Minister said, that they introduced the Fitness Day which takes place every second Friday of the month“.  

The Mascom Chief Communications and Public Relations Officer Mrs. Tebogo LebotseSebego also spoke of the importance of sport to Mascom which is the main reason why they are supporting the Region 5 Youth Games. “sports development is one of the pillars in our CSR policy and we strive to do our best on this as a brand and company”, she said. The Region 5 Youth Games CEO Mr. Stanley Mutoya, was also present to receive the cheque from the telecommunications giant.
