I nearly started this post with the disclaimer about how it has been a while since I have last been to church but I think it’s old now and I really do not need to qualify or disqualify myself from blogging about socioreligious issues whether from the viewpoint of economics and finance or life in general. The bible contains a lot of information which, when interpreted, extrapolated and applied wisely, can grow you tremendously.
The story of the creation of the world has always been fascinating. Creating something out of nothing is honestly amazing. That is why we celebrate people who have created global brands like Amazon, Facebook, Google, Apple, Orange and so forth. There is something grande about creation and as a result we too want to create something; a business, a name for ourselves, jobs etc.
In the beginning God CREATED the Heavens and the Earth. Creativity has been there since the beginning of time BUT I do not wish to talk about creativity in this post. I want to talk about what you must do whilst you create. Here are the 3 things I learnt from the story of God’s creation of the world.
1. BUILD IN STAGES. ORDER
There was order in how God created everything. “Let there be light” then only after that was the next thing created. Being God, I believe He has the power to have created every single thing in one mention. However, He still built it all in stages. This is the mistake we make when we build. We want everything to be done all at once. We want to have the corner office, a lot employees, company cars, everything all at once. This gets very frustrating because before realising that creation requires order, we over exert ourselves and end up depressing ourselves. You must build in stages.
2. ALWAYS REVIEW AND CONGRATULATE YOURSELF IN EVERY MILESTONE.
Every milestone should come with a pat on the back by you to you. Everytime God created something He looked back at it and saw that it was GOOD. As He created He constantly reviews His own work and gave it a thumbs up. Trust me, it is very easy to get lost in the dream so much that you lose track of where you are in real life. The dream is obviously bigger than your current reality and I have seen people who cried so much for the dream not realising that they are actually in a good place. It is important to always remind yourself that although you have not arrived yet, you are better than when you had not started at all. Celebrate thyself.
Resting is important. Over-resting, if there’s such a word, is laziness. God rested. You need to continuously take some time off to rest. I never used to believe in resting because I wanted success and I wanted it all now. I then realised that it is all a fleeting target: you will always want more. Working without rest will burn you down and ultimately kill you. Well, atleast then you will rest for real. You must rest, go on holiday, spend time away from your hustle and reconnect with friends and family.
