Bathoen II Trust successful delivered a Cultural Festival

On the 27th October 2018, Baa Gangwaketsi, culture lovers, Batswana flogged to the glorious Mmakgodumo Cultural Festival. The festival which was on pause last year due to circumstances beyond well wishers, and it was later agreed that the Bathoen II Trust form an interim committee that will see the future of the Cultural Festival.

The event which was graced by His Excellency The President of Botswana Dr Mokgwetsi Eric K. Masisi, Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security who is also the area MP Patrick Ralotsia, District Commissioner Mr Raletobana, Chairman of Southern District Council Mr Alec Seametso and his board, Chairperson of the Bathoen II Trust Mr Moahi, distinguished Headsmen and Chiefs from the Bangwaketsi region, Area Commanding Officer.

When welcoming The President, on behalf of the Bangwaketsi Paramount Chief, Kgosi Kwenayagae thanked His Excellency for gracing the cultural festival, and he continued to tell Dr Masisi that Baa Gangwakesti love and honours showcasing their culture as recently they held Dikgafela, the practice which they started 2 years ago, he also pleaded with the President to grace the Dikgafela in 2019, and to scout for financial support, potential developments for the Mmakgodumo grounds to be secured and protected, as he continue to travel other nations.

His Excellency encouraged the organizers to consider partnering with the Show Organizing Team to productively utilize the Mmakgodumo place, and to work on making it a tourist attraction place. Dr Masisi said the government is committed to safe guarding, and funding cultural events.

He went on to applaud the youth lead Bathoen II Trust, saying it’s at the right time that Bangwaketsi saw it fitting to engage energetic and fresh young minds in culture conservation. He assured the organizers that in 2019 he will be attending as well even though it will be held after elections.
