Over the weekend Enpassent Chess Club, hosted the youth chess championship, at University of Botswana. When opening the championship the organizers, encouraged fair play and dedication, he also thanked parents for showing support to their efforts and advised parents to buy chess sets for players.
This year`s tournament was sponsored by Lers Electrical, sponsored with medals and trophy’s. The General Manager of Lers Electrical Mr Opelo Keatlhotswe, said he is honored to have partnered with Enpassent Chess Club because they believe chess improves the thinking capacity of students and encouraged students to take sports and studies serious. A parent to one of the renowned Botswana national chess players Naledi Marape (Women FIDE Master), and Marape Marape Jr (Candidate Master) and he pointed out that there is another start in the raising from the Marape clan. Dr Marape further thanked Lers Electrical for sponsoring the tournament and alluded that he hope to see more companies coming on board to sponsor this noble sport. He also applauded parents who took time to come and support their children.
Some players were given chess sets as the organizers saw it fit, because some players do not have one. One of the players who was awarded a chess set Kerapetse Kobokobo thanked the organizers. On the under 16: Phenyo Mokotedi from Molefi SSS got bronze, Tanusree Potulapati from Maruapula School got silver while Zhen Xiu from Leagae Academy walked away with gold and a trophy. Under 14: they was only one female playing on this section Ogona Tladi from Bakgatla CJSS, she walked away with a gold medal and a trophy, while in the male category Zhenghao Shi from Legae Academy got bronze, from Leagae again Ethan Dsouza got silver while Koheleth Simon from TDS got a gold medal and a trophy. Under 12 girls section Goitsemodimo Rateri got silver and Nicole Chaitaadzimu crowned the champion. Boys sections Vaishnauv Kumar from Leagae Academy walked away with bronze medal, Athur Krishna Saddesh from Alnur got silver while Arivumathi Muthuaji from Leagae got gold medal. Under 10 Arnav Sadhan got gold, Ofile Masilo from Rainbow got sliver while Aone Morei walked away with bronze medal. On the girls section Peo Segwele from Believers walked away with gold medal and a trophy, Itayi Mashumba of Hillcrest School got silver.
